Wildwood Crest Pirate

A new “Bird Dog,” Dennis Wall, told me about this big guy. He stands at the entrance to a Jersey Shore restaurant named Two Mile Landing. It’s on Ocean Drive south of Wildwood Crest. After taking this photo we went inside to watch the Kentucky Derby.  Monarchos won and paid $23.00.

MSP Moose

Walking through the Minneapolis airport after we photographed the “double up” of Indians outside the Thunderbird Motel Mark spotted this Big Moose. “Hey, ” he said,” you need this for your photo collection.” I agreed and here it is.

Minneapolis Native Americans

Now I’ve been going to Minneapolis on a regular basis. At least once a month for the past 3 years. I’ve had my eye on this pair of Big Guys for a couple of years but never got the chance to grab the photos. Now I’ve got ’em. Outside the Thunderbird Motel off I-494. It was February, Minneapolis, and (need I say) COLD. Mark was quite the trooper however and trudged through the snow in his dress shoes to take this photo. Thanks a lot pal.

Sculpture Garden Fish

After Ernie and I got the famous Spoon and Cherry photo in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden (see latest in Food and Drink) we were walking through the greenhouse enjoying the flowering plants. We stopped to chat with a gardener working in a water pond. Well, lo and behold , the pond was capped with this glass fish. Go and see it, pretty cool, this photo doesn’t do it justice.

Spoon and Cherry

In Minneapolis once again. Lot’s of Birddogs told me about this famous sculpture and with some time to kill Ernie and I tracked this beauty down. Snow all over the place, slipping and sliding, we got the image. Later it was a nightmare getting home with a lot of air traffic delays. We ended up taking separate flights back to Philly.

JMU Dragon

We were visiting Benjamin in November during Parents Weekend at JMU and were on our way to pick something up at the mall, when I innocently asked him if he had seen anything “Big” lately. He got quite excited and said that he had just spotted a big dinosaur in front of a car dealership. The rest was history. Now you see the photo.

Tri-State Poultry Chicken

Down in Arkansas, Fayetteville to be exact, there is Tri-State Poultry with this big Chicken outside. It took a few tries before I could get this photo. Rain, timing, etc. held me up. But it was worthwhile as you can see.

Tri-State Poultry Turkey

Along with the above photo this BIG turkey was out on display. We (Meredith the photographer, Ralph and I spent some time talking to an employee at Tri State about these birds. Seems that he was photographed with one of these birds himself for the local paper. Good story, stop in and hear it.

“The Quelle” Guinness

On the way back from Long Beach Island, NJ is a bar and restaurant, “The Quelle” that had this big inflatable over the deck. Deb and I had a beer and a frank after a hard day taking Big Pictures, all the while sitting under this gem. Fortunately we met the owner and once again Deb talked him into taking us up on to the roof for this photo opportunity.

Long Beach Island Taffy

Out on Long Beach Island, in the town of Brant Beach is Lucille’s Candy. Taffy, fudge, lot’s of different types of candy are available. Also some pretty tacky gifts as well. You have to make a living after all.

Seaside Heights Waterboy

I was in search of some more Muffler Men in Seaside Heights, NJ and was parking the car when lo and behold here was Waterboy. Debbie talked us into the Water Works Waterpark on Ocean Side between Grant and Sherman (Longstreet was nowhere to be found) and we got this guy.

Seaside Heights Guy

Here’s another “Alfred” located on the Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, NJ. The nice folks working there allowed us to take a couple of photos while escorting us out because we were on the pier before opening time.

Casino Pier Muffler Man

This is the other Muffler Man located in the Casino Pier Amusement Park. I couldn’t get too close to him without dire consequences, but he’s there nonetheless.  Of course, after this we were spotted and escorted off the pier.  What an exciting hobby!

Wacky Golf Muffler Man

Still in Seaside Heights (a veritable gold mine of Big Pictures) at the Wacky Golf minature course, search located upstairs on the boardwalk, is another Muffler Man with the head of Alfred E. Newman. This makes 4 that I have photos with.

Blue Hen Chicken

Here’s a pretty good size Chicken outside Fisher’s Market on Route 49 between Bridgeton and Shiloh in Hopewell Township. The store has a Black Angus on the roof too! This chicken has been stolen a number of times; it once showed up painted blue on the campus of the University of Delaware. Get it, the “Blue Hens.”
