Nashville Ice Cream

We finished our Log Cabin getaway with some browsing in the shops in Nashville, IN. This cone is not the first I’ve had my photo taken with in Nashville. However the last one was in December and the weather was much chillier than it was on this day.

Indiana Squirrel

We were hiking in Brown County State Park and stayed to have lunch at the Abe Martin Lodge. On the way to the dining room on the second floor we spotted this Big Squirrel.  I imagine I am not the first to have my photo taken with him, what do you think?

Sullivan’s Chair

Here is another Big Item taken in front of Sullivan Hardware, on Keystone Avenue in Indianapolis. I have many shots taken at this location. See the Big Green Egg inflatable just a couple shots below this. This big Adirondack Chair showed up a few days ago and we stopped by to grab this shot before it disappeared. Thanks again, Sullivan’s and keep the Big Things coming.

4th of July Geiko

The 4th of July Festival in Carmel is a lot of fun and offers entertainment throughout the day following the end of the parade. There are multiple performance stages, food booths and vendor and information booths. This Big Gecko was outside the GEICO booth so naturally I had to grab a shot.  Notice the Red, White and Brew T-shirt.

Big Colts in Indy

Living in Indianapolis, mind it becomes almost obligatory to have Colt inflatables at most events. The one on the left was also at the Freedom Festival in Fishers. Later that year Fishers Football was playing at Lucas Oil Field (“The Luke”) and our way out of the suite this Big Colt was hanging around.

Children’s Museum Avatar

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis where I volunteer once a week had a Volunteer Recognition evening coinciding with the opening of “Avatar: The Exhibition.” We were able to experience the new exhibit and found these Big Boots to illustrate the difference in size between humans and Avatars. The lower gravity allowed everything to grow to a larger size. If you plan to visit Indianapolis, plan to spend some time in the museum. On a Wednesday morning stop in at Science Works on the 4th floor and say “hi” to me.

Anderson Vacuum Cleaner

Outside the T&H Sweeper Company branch on Indiana SR-9 in Anderson I spotted this Big Vacuum. We were on our way to Mounds State Park. Indiana has some very nice state parks and we have started to visit them. Mounds web site describes it best stating it “features 10 unique “earthworks” built by a group of prehistoric Indians known as the Adena-Hopewell people. The largest earthwork, the “Great Mound”, is believed to have been constructed around 160 B.C. Archaeological surveys seem to indicate it was used as a gathering place for religious ceremonies.” We enjoyed our time in the park, it’s nice that it is so close to home.

Keystone Inflatable

We drive Keystone Avenue often, both on the way south into Indianapolis, as well as north to the Carmel business district. We were driving down Keystone on our way to downtown Indy and spotted this big inflatable race car driver out in front of a used car dealership across from the WalMart. We didn’t have time to stop then and hoped it would still be there in the next couple of days. Sunday morning we drove past and stopped to get this image. There were a couple tire kickers in the lot wondering what was going on.

Hagerstown Coke

Spring Break this year found us traveling to Philadelphia to catch up with family as well as seeing 7 month old Nate. We thought about dropping down to DC to see the Cherry Blossoms but with the unseasonable cold weather they were delayed. We decided to visit Harper’s Ferry instead. We found a nice Bed and Breakfast and spent time visiting the National Historic Park. On the way home we went up to Hagerstown to grab this big coke bottle on the roof of a Coke distributorship. I have two other images from this trip, both located in the Big Objects section.

Mason-Dixon Firecracker

After getting the Coke bottle and Big Rocker in Hagerstown we traveled north on I-81 to the Keystone Fireworks Company in Pennsylvania, just over the Mason-Dixon line. This is one big firecracker. There were a lot of no smoking signs around the building as you might expect. They weren’t open at but this was one big store.

Hagerstown Rocker

This Big Rocker is not the biggest I have but it does fit the bill to be included on the site. It’s located in Hagerstown, Maryland. We stopped to grab this image and the next after visiting Harper’s Ferry on our Spring Break trip to Philadelphia. In Harper’s Ferry we stayed at The Angler Bed and Breakfast, something we rately do, and after a wonderful breakfast we started the day getting some Big Things.

Riley Hospital for Kids Fundraiser

Deb teaches at Fishers High School in Fishers, Indiana. They were holding their Dance-a-thon to benefit Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Chris Edwards, who teaches with Deb was instrumental in getting Riley named as the beneficiary of the fundraiser. Last year, his son Ben was diagnosed with cancer and it was through the efforts of the Riley staff that Ben is now a cancer-free, happy, 3 year old and celebrating his health with big brother Blake. Anyway, at the dance-a-thon there were many activities, including these two big blowup slides.

Sullivan’s Egg

Sullivan’s Hardware, on Keystone Avenue in Indianapolis, is fast becoming my inflatable site of preference. They regularly have suppliers place inflatables in front of the store. Driving by recently I spotted this big inflatable before the Chief Photographer. She asked why we were turning into the parking lot, then she spotted this Big Green Egg Cooker inflatable. This ceramic cooker is the latest trend in grilling. The company calls it “The Ultimate Cooking Experience.” I bet it’s a pretty good grill.

Home Show Culligan Booth

To prove the point that you never know where you will find a “Big Thing” this is one example. We were at the Indianapolis Home Show and found this Big Water Faucet at the Culligan booth. We spoke with Kim and she allowed us to grab this image of the self supporting faucet.

Home Show Brush

Also at the Home Show the CertaPro Painters had a booth. All the people visiting the model house saw this booth. Of course, I noticed the person inside this Big Paint Brush. My thanks to JJ Darr for allowing us to grab this image.

Habig Trowel

Years ago, we traveled from Philadelphia to Champaign, Illinois to drop Andy off to start his freshmen year at the University of Illinois. We spent the night in Indianapolis and found a Big Trowel at Habig’s nursery in Westfield. Well, after we moved to Indianapolis in 2002 I found that Habig had multiple locations. The original location is on College Ave just south of Broad Ripple. Recently we stopped to get this image on a cold morning after a good snowfall. Here is the original trowel, dressed up with a Santa hat.

Latitude 39 blow-up

Latitude 39 is a new Family Entertainment Center that recently opened near our house. It bills itself as a Premier Entertainment Center. They offer 70,000 sq. ft. of entertainment: a sports theater, luxury bowling, game room, lots of TV and dining. Sounds like an exciting place. Prior to opening they were looking for new hires to satisfy all their guests and used this inflatable dragon to catch their eye. The Chief Photographer spotted this guy and we were able to grab this image.

Children’s Museum Objects

I volunteer at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis one morning a week. It’s the worlds largest Children’s Museum, so it’s only fitting that I work there. Recently the Chief Photographer had a day off and spent some time exploring the museum. Some images are on the Seasonal page, these are a couple of other Big Objects. In the atrium stands the Bumblebee, a transformer type guy that all the visitors love, I work in the Science Works area. One area there is the Health House and this guy on the right invites children to exercise everyday. On the floor in front of him is a twister type game for the children to play.

5th and Vine Fish

5th and Vine is “The Corner” in Cincinnati – Fountain Square on one corner, Tiffany’s on another, Brazillian Steak House and Morton’s on the third and then McCormick & Schmidt’s on the last. This Big Fish advertises M&S’s fish and steak menu. I’ve eaten at a few of their other locations and can attest that the experience is wonderful. We left Cincinnati late afternoon, way too early to have dinner, darn!
