Indiana Dunes State Park

We were in the visitors center at Indiana Dunes State Park when lo and behold I spotted this pair of stuffed fish. Not the biggest fish I’ve been photographed with but big anyway. One in the background is a Catfish and I’m not sure about the other type.

New Castle Jockey

Outside the Ice House Tavern in New Castle, Indiana you can find this jockey, or at least I think he is a jockey. Not a muffler man for sure, check out the hands. He kind of like a large driveway jockey without the red jacket.

Do-It-Best Caulk

I was at the Do-It-Best Hardware seasonal show here in Indianapolis. We are a new vendor to Do-It-Best and this was a great experience for someone who likes walking around the hardware section of the store. In fact, Ben and I used to go to the hardware store just to walk around and look at the tools. A father son experience!

Hong Kong Hats

I was in Hong Kong staying at the Hotel Nikko, which was very nice. Good rooms, good location and a very pleasant experience. I was traveling with Milan who took these photos. We had to take these pretty late so the quality is not so great, I think we were on the way back from the Tailors where I was having a suit made.  I never had a custom-made suit, what an interesting experience..  I also had 3 shirts custom tailored.

Car Wash Boot

The car washes in Southwest Indiana have a lot of Big Thigs. These boots were out in front of one of the car washes in Vincennes. I probably could have spent more time there since, it seems, there may be a competition between car washes to see who can have the most, or better, Big Things.

Car Wash Elf

I don’t know how to explain the number of Big Things at car washes in Southwestern Indiana. You have to go to Vincennes! It seems like every car wash has Big Things. This little, actually Big if the elf legend has any truth to it, Elf was around the back of a car wash. There were even more Big Things, note the buffalo in the background.

Liz’s Strawberry

My thanks to Liz Bailey for Bird Dogging this Big Strawberry. Liz works as a teacher with Deb at Fishers High School. (Go Tigers!) While she lives outside Indy, she is from Vincennes and sees this Big Strawberry on her way to visit her family. The berry is out in the middle of a field, lucky for me it hadn’t rained recently.

Car Wash Archer

I think I’ve already said it all in the previous entry and on the Big Animals page. This archer stood right out in front of another car wash in Vincennes. Now Vincennes is a pretty nice town, county seat and all, but what a joy to live around all these Big Things.

Liz’s Peach

This is kind of a famous Big Peach if you are a BigThingologist like me. I had my sights on this but just needed the opportunity. And or course that came on the way home from New Harmony. This peach of a Peach sits out front of a fruit market on Rte 41 between Vincennes and Terra Haute.

Car Wash Stork

This stork was a nice find. There is a car wash in Vincennes that has several Big Things, this stork is one of them. I don’t know what’s in the water in Southwest Indiana (besides Calcium from all the limestone) but whatever it is, they do like Big Things. This was a researched find but turned out better than expected as some of the best finds do.

Car Wash Bear

I don’t know what it is with the car washes in Southwestern Indiana. Maybe they are competing but there are a plethora of Big Things around car washes. Yogi here waves to all the passing motorists enticing them to come on in and leave with a clean car.

Southern Indiana Bins

This ia a planned shot for our trip to South Indiana. These feed storage bins shows that a sense of humor exists everywhere. This was not an easy image to capture and Hats Off to Deb for her ability to climb through ditchs and up embankments in pursuit of the perfect image.

At The Jim Hipp Nursery

We were in Southwest Indiana on the way to New Harmony, an Intentional Community founded to wait for the Second Coming. A very serene and holy place – you need to go there! Just north in Haubstadt, at the junction of I-64 and US-41 is the Jim Hipp Nursery. Believe me, this a “Target Rich” environment. I am pictured here with the buffalo that greets visitors.

Jim Hipp’s Big Birds

Well at Jim Hipp’s there are so many wonderful Big Things I almost couldn’t figure out how to capture everything, so here’s a double eagle (wasn’t that a coin?) Pretty cool. And you know what? Jim Hipp lives on site. His house has a warning that it is off limits to visitors, he’s had strangers wander into his kitchen. Imagine that!

Jim Hipp Fish

From I-64 you can spot this fish (largemouth bass? let me know) if you know where to look. Thankfully for my friends on “RoadsideAmerica.com” I know where to look. Doesn’t everyone plan their trips around things that are larger than life?

Elephants at The Jim Hipp Nursery

I have an elephant below on this page that is on the Pendleton Pike here in the Indy area. Melinda told me about that Big Thing. She was an enthusiastic Big Dogger and gave me a Maritni elephant like the one below.  Was I surprised to find another here at The Jim Hipp Nursery along with a trio of his friends.

Phillies Shoe

Deb and I went to Philadelphia during her Spring Break. We had a great time, stopping at Nancy and Tony’s cabin. We went from there to the Phillies game where they set a record, being the first professional team to lose 10,000 games. We made history! Anyway, there was this diversion for kids and seekers after of Big Things. This photo is the result.

Sorry Looking Bull

This was a nice find. Unexpected as some of the best finds are. I’ve lost my notes on this but as I recall it was in Mitchell, Indiana near Spring Mills State Park where we were planning to spend the night. This sad looking bull was abandoned out in front of a closed general merchandise store. I just realized that I neglected this poor bull as well with my lost details. How sad!

Chick fil a – About Time!

I’ve wanted this Inflatable for quite a while now. At times I’ve seen it up in front of one of the Chick fil a restaurants. Without a doubt I saw this inflatable and didn’t have a camera with me or my most favorite photographer. This time the planets were in alighnment and me, the inflatable and the photographer were all together. Hooray!
